Red Tornado is a DC Comics superhero, an android possessing advanced artificial intelligence and the ability to control air currents, creating powerful cyclones and wind blasts.
Initially created by the villain Professor Ivo to infiltrate the Justice Society of America (JSA), Red Tornado developed a conscience and rebelled against his programming, becoming a hero instead.
He is composed of a sophisticated synthetic body and houses the consciousness of the Tornado Champion, an air elemental from Rann. This merging grants him his unique powers. The elemental was previously bonded to the body of Golden Age hero Ma Hunkel, the first Red Tornado.
Throughout his publication history, Red Tornado has been a member of both the JSA and the Justice League, often struggling with his identity as a machine striving for humanity. He has formed strong bonds with other heroes and even acted as a foster father. He has at times had issues with his human form as well, since he has been destroyed and rebuilt numerous times.
